People in southern California dropped simultaneously to ground Thursday morning huddled under tables and held on for about a minute in what is being billed as the largest earthquake drill in history. The list of companies suing up Google just got a new member in GraphOn Corp. a developer of server based application publishing and web enabling software solutions. GraphOn has charged Google with infringement of four its owned patents. Filing their complaint in US District Court in the Eastern District of Texas GraphOn complains that Google has infringed on their U.S. Patent Nos. the patent the patent the patent and the patent . All these patents protect GraphOn s unique method of maintaining an automated and network accessible database. According to the complaint Google s Base Adwords Blogger Google Sites and YouTube have infringe on the GraphOn patents and the company is seeking permanent injunctive relief along with yet to be determined damages. Interestingly GraphOn is no longer stranger to this kind of complaints. It previously filed the same patent infringement case against AutoTrade.com Juniper Networks and Classified Ventures LLC IAC InterActiveCorp Match.com LLC Ya! hoo Inc. eHarmony.com and CareerBuilder LLC. Main American Teen music getting a update Though Sundance darling American Teen was filmed way back in the documentary will be infused with a bit of at least when it comes to its music. Nanette Burstein s film which follows four seniors at Warsaw Community High School in Indiana is a compelling look at how teens balance the pressures of dealing with college and their parents during their graduating year. As it stands American Teen has a fresh indie focused sound one that keeps the film current without embellishing the inherit drama of teen life. Credits roll to power pop band the New Pornographers lilting My Rights Versus Yours while the score was composed by singer songwriter Michael Penn who has also worked on Boogie Nights and The L! ast Kiss among others. Just a few of the other artists featured in the film include Moby indie rockers the Unicorns and indie hip hop duo Blackalicious . The film s Facebook page fans and counting has a teaser for an upcoming soundtrack. It mentions some bands of the moment such as peppy dance rockers the Ting Tings and spacey buzz band MGMT . The latter s Time to Pretend opened gambling flick . But one interesting note Neither of those bands is actually in American Teen nor are any of the acts teased in the below pic at least as things stand now. Having just caught the film I was eager to hear a little bit of the Tings on the big screen hoping the act would come off better than it does on the small screen . But American Teen came and went without any music from the acts being marketed with it including two from Almost Gold Recordings the new wavy electronics of Does It Offend You Yeah and the retro styled pop of the Black Kids . But expect that to change before the film op! ens for the public this summer. A spokesperson for the film s distributor Paramount Vantage said such acts would most likely find their way into the movie. It s not entirely uncommon for a film s music to be altered as it works its way from Sundance to an official release date and for a word of mouth film a buzzed about soundtrack could do wonders as evidenced by Juno this past winter. Whether the addition of the Ting Tings and the Black Kids will give American Teen some indie cred remains to be seen but it s yet another reason I ll look forward to seeing it a second time. Fans of American Teen need not fear as it will remain otherwise untouched from how it screened at Sundance save for some updates on the whereabouts of the young adults featured in the film. The film is on target for a summer break release date of July . It will get an expanded release in August and there will be more on the film and its soundtrack here on Extended Play closer to its release date. The first signs of outrage flared Monday as Yahoo s stock plunged percent in reaction to Microsoft withdrawal of its sweetened per share bid and two lawyers already suing the company s board vowed to amend their complaint to account for a massive loss in shareholder value. The breaking point in the month standoff occurred over the weekend when Yahoo co founders Jerry Yang and David Filo met with Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer after he had agreed to raise the software maker s bid by about billion or more than per share. Yang and Filo said Yahoo s board wanted per share a price the company s stock hasn t reached in more than two years. In response Ballmer pulled his offer off the table. In an interview Monday Yang indicated he had expected Ballmer to counter. We engaged with them and we wanted to find a way to get something done. But they walked said Yang who was named as Yahoo s chief executive officer months ago. If he wants to r! emain CEO Yang probably will have to show his turnaround strategy is compelling enough to propel Yahoo s stock beyond per share within a year. Yang has promised that a more sophisticated and far flung ad network will accelerate Yahoo s net revenue growth by at least percent in and up from the recent pace of percent increase. The company is doing better than three months ago Yang said Monday. I think in many ways this takeover threat has been good for us. We still have a lot of work to do to demonstrate that we can be successful and I am focused on that. But Yang s credibility has been undermined by Yahoo s repeated forecasts of better times ahead while its profits steadily eroded during the past two years. We are not willing to give Yahoo the benefit of the doubt that they can make meaningful improvement over the next three years UBS analysts Benjamin Schachter Heather Bellini and Abhey Lamba wrote in a joint research note. If Yahoo stumbles that could entice Microsoft to r! eturn with another takeover bid that would be more difficult to turn down. Venture capitalist Todd Dagres of Spark Capital likened this approach to a crocodile s. Rather than try to eat its prey while it s warm and tough Microsoft is dragging it down to the bottom of the river sticking it under a rock and eating it later when it s cold and soft he said. Although Microsoft has publicly indicated it will focus on measures besides buying Yahoo in its effort to make its Internet division profitable several analysts predicted the software maker will revive its offer in the summer or fall if Yahoo doesn t snap out of its two year funk the weakness that exposed it to an unwanted takeover in the first place. Should the frustration of Yahoo shareholders come to a boil we believe Microsoft could re enter the picture essentially playing the role of the white knight analyst David Hilal of Friedman Billings Ramsey Co. wrote in a Monday research note. With similar opinions reverberating through the stock market Yahoo s stock didn t sink as dramatically as m! any analysts anticipated. But Yahoo shares shed . to close at . wiping out nearly half the gain they had made since Microsoft made its bid Jan. . The drop left the Sunnyvale based company s market value about . billion below Microsoft s last offer. Yahoo s stock price was . before Microsoft made its offer. I was expecting to see a more extreme reaction to Microsoft s withdrawn bid Stanford Group analyst Clayton Moran said. Microsoft is trying to make it seem like it s not coming back with another bid but this somewhat muted reaction shows the market isn t buying it. If Microsoft returned with a real offer and a real proposal Yang said we would be happy to listen. Yang figures to get an earful from irate shareholders at the annual meeting. Yahoo finally set the meeting for July after indefinitely postponing it in early spring as part of its effort to foil a possible hostile takeover attempt by Microsoft. Now it may be Yahoo s shareholders who try to oust Yang and the rest of! Yahoo s board instead of Ballmer who had threatened an attempt to dump the directors if they didn t accept Microsoft s offer. Lawyers for two Detroit based public pension funds that sued Yahoo in February alleging it failed in its duty to act in shareholders best interests will amend their complaint to include the weekend s events according to a statement Monday from the firm Bernstein Litowitz Berger Grossmann. Meanwhile Google Inc. whose dominance in online search triggered Microsoft s bid appears poised to grow even stronger. Unnerved by the prospect of its two biggest rivals joining forces Google reached out to Yahoo to help thwart Microsoft s bid. The collaboration has prompted Yahoo to consider turning over some of its advertising space to Internet search leader Google whose technology yields higher profits from commercial links. If Yahoo announces an ad partnership with Google that could preclude a renewed bid from Microsoft because Ballmer thinks the alliance will diminish Yahoo s long term value. Many analysts share Ballmer s opinion! . While Google could boost Yahoo revenue by anywhere from million to . billion annually it might also hurt Yahoo by undercutting the appeal of its own ad platform. An alliance between Google and Yahoo also would cause regulatory headaches because antitrust officials would to take a hard look at the partnership because the companies combined control more than percent of the Internet s search advertising market. While analysts debated how Yahoo and Microsoft should proceed most agreed Google will benefit from the aborted takeover attempt. Even if Google doesn t end up selling ads on Yahoo s heavily trafficked Web site it has kept some of the Internet s biggest services out of Microsoft s clutches. We believe Google is a major winner given the failure of the Yahoo bid Stifel Nicolaus analyst George Askew wrote in a Monday note. Google is well positioned to continue to gain market share benefit from any Yahoo advertising deal and exploit any ongoing chaos at Yahoo and Microsoft! . Google shares gained . or . percent to close at . Monday. Time Warner Inc. also appears to be in a better negotiating position if it decides to sell its struggling AOL subsidiary as many analysts anticipate. Yahoo had been mulling a possible combination with AOL s online operations as a defensive measure against Microsoft. Now Microsoft may make a run at AOL if it s interest in buying Yahoo is truly dead. And if Microsoft enters the picture Google might offer to increase its percent stake in AOL just to repel Microsoft. A long list of Internet startups also could be in line for big windfalls if Microsoft and Yahoo step up their efforts to acquire more online weapons to challenge Google. And if Microsoft and Yahoo go shopping Google has plenty of cash to get into bidding wars for potential takeover targets like Digg Inc. LinkedIn Corp. and Facebook Inc. Freed of one another Yahoo and Microsoft are buyout prospectors we would expect a rush to deal environment BMO Capital Markets analyst Leland Westerfield. Former New Yorker and Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown is teaming with Barry Diller on the creation of a non partisan news aggregation site Radar reports . Edward Felsenthal the former deputy managing editor of the Wall Street Journal who has lately been serving as a consultant at Portfolio has been tapped as the site s editor. Brown is mum on when it will launch or what the site will be named. Radar highlights a recent NYT item on the Huffington Post s estimated million but Brown doesn t take the bait insisting that she s not trying to compete with the left leaning news site. Joseph adds A source familiar with the project says it s not a Diller project per se but an IAC NSDQ IACI venture. Consistent with Brown s insistence that she s not going after the Huffington Post we re told the venture will not produce original content but will consist of hand selected links to outside posts much of it with a cultural focus. Integrated audio sucks Integrated audio sucks. I have an Audigy that supports EAX . so I hear a wider variety of higher quality effects than the AC codec which only supports EAX . . Also my Audigy has high quality output jacks and a more powerful onboard amplifier. The only thing I dislike about my Audigy is that I can t record isolated channels so I have to use a relay to correctly record my DJ mixing software. I m a big gamer so EAX spec is important to me. I ve been happily buying Creative Creative Labs hardware since Sound Blaster . but I d gladly buy a competitor s product if it supported at least EAX . . None seem to. The absolute truth is that even if Creative is a greedy company in pricing and corporate policies they make high quality products from high quality parts so games sound amazing on them. Playing a certain type of music can enhance the way wine tastes research by psychologists suggests. The Heriot Watt University study found people rated the change in taste by up to depending on the melody heard. The researchers said cabernet sauvignon was most affected by powerful and heavy music and chardonnay by zingy and refreshing sounds. Professor Adrian North said the study could lead retailers to put music recommendations on their wine bottles. Inside he saw Myrtle Rupp a year old petite blonde widow who lived alone. Krajcir would later confess that this was how he chose his victims at random. At the time Krajcir was and awaiting a court appearance in Illinois for having a sexual relationship with a year old girl. He had already served more than a dozen years in prison there for raping and almost killing a woman but was free on bail on the latest charge. What no one knew as he hunted his next victim was that Krajcir was a serial murderer who by had killed three women in Missouri one in Illinois one in Kentucky and police say would tall! y nine victims before his spree ended. The day after he first saw Rupp Krajcir returned to her Berks County home broke in while she was out cut her phone lines and waited. But Rupp came home with someone police said so Krajcir left. A week later he was back again this time posing as a police officer investigating his earlier break in police said. And this time he caught her alone. On Tuesday Krajcir will face charges in Rupp s murder. His preliminary hearing before Berks County Judge Linda K.M. Ludgate will be through closed circuit television from the maximum security prison in Illinois where he has been since . Berks County District Attorney John Adams said he expects Krajcir to plead guilty just as he has in recent months to seven other cold case homicides and sexual assaults and a robbery in Missouri and Illinois. So far Krajcir has been sentenced to life sentences plus years in both states. He ll most likely receive another life sentence in Berks County in the Rupp cas! e Adams said but will likely serve out his sentences in Illinois. Krajcir who grew up in Ironton and briefly lived in Muhlenberg Township when he was in his mid teens admitted to investigators four months ago that he killed Rupp according to arrest papers. She didn t deserve to die he told them. Rupp s sister Verna Hartman of Reading remembers the shock of learning nearly three decades ago that her older sister had been killed. This was completely devastating she said. Rupp had been on leave from Community General Hospital in Reading following foot surgery and was looking forward to returning to her job recalled Hartman. She had worked at the hospital for about years serving as head of the obstetrics and pediatric department. She was dedicated and well respected Hartman said. A quiet person Rupp lived alone on tree lined Fifth Avenue next to the community swimming pool. When her husband died about five years earlier Rupp grew quieter and dedicated her life to her job Hartman said. The couple didn t have children but Rupp was very loving to my ! children Hartman said. Rupp s nephew David of Alsace Township was about and living in Fleetwood when she was killed. David Rupp said he had heard rumors over the years that police were close to an arrest maybe someone his aunt knew. He said he had never heard of Krajcir and doubts his aunt knew him. The murder Rupp was last seen alive on Easter Sunday April . She and her mother attended a holiday service at St. Stephen s United Church of Christ in Reading and Rupp took her mother home before returning to her own house. The next afternoon a newspaper boy noticed her front door open. It was still open Tuesday. A neighbor alarmed went inside and found her nude body on her bed. Her hands and feet were bound. Investigators determined Rupp was probably killed on April between a.m. and p.m. just as she was starting a load of laundry. Police believed her killing was connected to the break in a week earlier. An autopsy revealed Rupp had been tied and strangled with a drapery cord an! d that she had been raped. A key piece of evidence was her white bedspread which was examined at the state police crime lab. Two former Health Ministry officials cleared of helping Shiite death squads celebrated their release with friends and family Wednesday while outraged Sunni politicians called it a black day that showed just how dysfunctional Iraq s judicial system is. Former Deputy Health Minister Hakim al Zamili and Brig. Gen. Hameed al Shimmari who was in charge of the ministry s security force were freed from U.S. custody early Wednesday two days after an Iraqi court opted to drop kidnapping murder and corruption charges against them for lack of evidence. The trial before the three judge panel had only started on Sunday and there were widespread allegations of witness intimidation. The proceedings had already been delayed once because witnesses failed to show up. Minority Sunnis viewed the trial as a major test of the judiciary in this Shiite dominated country which in the post Saddam Hussein era is now led by a Shiite prime minister Nouri al Maliki . The case s collapse has struck a blow! to U.S. backed national reconciliation efforts . It sent the Sunnis a message that they won t get justice in a country where tens of thousands of people already are being detained many of whom are held for months without hearings. The Iraqi Islamic Party a Sunni political group said in a statement Wednesday that it considers today as a black mark and a grave setback in the history of the Iraqi judiciary system. What has happened today is a big mistake that should be corrected immediately otherwise the country will be drawn into disaster. Al Zamili and al Shimmari were accused of aiding in some of the most horrifying sectarian violence that gripped Iraq in the wake of the Feb. bombing of a revered Shiite mosque by Sunni extremists. The officials allegedly used their positions to help the Mahdi Army a militia loyal to radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al Sadr find and kill Sunni targets. Prosecutors charged that the militiamen were given access to public hospitals and ambulances! . A U.S. military statement issued after al Zamili s arrest said without mentioning him by name that he was believed to have siphoned millions of dollars from the ministry to the Mahdi Army to support sectarian attacks and violence targeting Iraqi citizens. Once freed from a U.S. run detention facility near Baghdad s international airport supporters whisked al Zamili and al Shimmari back to their homes in the city for welcome home celebrations. Wearing a brown suit without a tie al Zamili was smiling and joyful as people or more descended on his small house in Sadr City a huge slum on Baghdad s east side. Al Zamili sat in the middle of a tent erected to accommodate the crowd as lunch was readied in four huge pots. Most of the visitors were officials from al Sadr s various political offices. Sayyid Muqtada al Sadr congratulated me by phone this morning al Zamili said referring to al Sadr with an honorific. Some people cried as they embraced him while others offered words of encouragement and praised his courageous stance. Al Zamili charged that! during his year in jail he came under intense psychological pressure from the American military. In my detention the Americans practiced psychological pressure he said adding that he was kept in solitary confinement. During the interrogations the occupying forces threatened that the judge would convict me and I would be executed. When the court dropped the charges the United States reserved judgment on the ruling. On Monday U.S. Embassy spokesman Philip Reeker said there remain serious allegations of witness intimidation and other irregularities in this case that have not yet been fully or transparently resolved within the Iraqi system. Al Zamili described those who were to testify against him as false witnesses who had been promised visas to the United States. There was American interference. False witnesses were given visas to the United States he said. They falsely accused me of kidnapping and killing operations because I had evidence against them which show their admin! istrative corruption. But the Iraqi Islamic Party said that the corruption ran the other way with al Zamadi and al Shimmari participating in murder and then militias threatening witnesses. We wonder why these two persons were released while thousands of people who were acquitted by Iraqi courts are still being kept behind bars the party s statement said. An estimated detainees were in U.S. custody as of last month. The exact number of people being detained by the Iraqi government is not clear though it had reached by the end of with the so called surge in American troops pushing that figure higher as military forces were more active. Parliament recently approved a limited amnesty for people held in Iraqi custody and while government officials drew no connection to the release of al Zamili and al Shimmari there were separate reports Wednesday of two groups totaling prisoners being freed. Joan of Arc gender and surface

I decided to audit professor Craig Detwieler s new class on transcendental style films. He s connecting these slow and detailed films to a monastic and sacramental approach to viewing. I didn t intend it but it will be a great connection with the required Spirituality class I m currently taking. On Friday we watched the silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc or La Passion de Jeanne d Arc directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer. I vaugely remember seeing clips of this somewhere but would have never watched the entire film on my own. Shot in ECU format extreme close up to Maria Falconetti who plays Joan it is very trying to watch as every emotion flashes across her face in painstaking detail as she s tried for heresy by manipulative clergy. Her widening eyes rolling tears and bowing head made up a majority of the film. A few things stood out to me and the first was gender. I was overwhelmed watching her integrity call and personhood put on trial largely because she was a woman. Perhap! s I was more aware of it because I was one of two females in the room of about watching the film. Regardless I was surprised how deeply I found myself engaged with a personal connection to her story. The second was the graphic nature of the film s cinematography. I felt as if every shot had been designed or composed. Characters appeared half onscreen and half off the cross in her cell s window was always strategically placed in relation to Joan s face or the clergy. In addition she was shown largely from the neck up while the clergy were shown from the waist up. Most striking were simply Joan s eyes as they expressed her deep emotion and turmoil. Detwieler likened it to observing the Christ Pantocrator Icon. After class I was processing these two aspects of the film when recent reading on gender roles within the graphic design field came sharply to mind. Veronique Vienne writes about women bringing additional attributes to graphic design that differ from their male peers. B! ut what stood out to me was Vienne s assertion that because women can biologically create life within their bodies they understand a movement inward that is additional to an outer visibility which is central for males . As a result women innately understand and create not merely a graphic surface but a graphic threshold that invites viewers to peer into the design not merely at it. I resonated with much of what she said and I agree this inward design approach is feminine however I don t think it is limited to female designers. Director Carl Theodor Dreyer certainly applied it to cinema in the Joan of Arc s passion. We were not merely watching Joan of Arc we were drawn into the story. In connection with faith I think Dreyer was also harkening to a Christian Orthodox tradition where icons are used as holy images and stir believers into deeper worship and contemplation of the divince through transcendence. This connection hints at another dimension of a gender inclusive God we don t hear much about and don t really understand how to connect to th! e feminine. Dreyer s portrayal of a female saint in such a transcendent vehicle seems very appropriate if not genius. No wonder this film still has acclaim years after it was made No comments yet. Be the first. The brokerage also raised its price target on Yahoo s stock to from saying it believed Microsoft remained committed to its offer and is capable of and willing to increase that bid to conclude the deal. While we continue to see no other competing bidders we believe Yahoo is aggressively pursuing strategic alternatives analyst Mark Mahaney said in a note to clients. ROYAL PALM BEACH Fla. The wife of a paramedic gunned down at a Wendy s said Thursday she is struggling to understand what led a year old handyman to commit the rampage that killed her husband. The depression with this man must have been great. I can t forgive him yet Michele Vazquez said. I m still angry but I also know he has a family that is just as confused and angry as I am. Vazquez spoke at a news conference outside Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Station where her husband Lt. Rafael Vazquez served. The couple and their year old son had left the restaurant just before Monday s shooting in suburban West Palm Beach but Rafael Vazquez had returned to exchange a promotional toy his son got with his meal. Alburn Edward Blake shot him in the back and wounded four other customers before killing himself. The wounded are all recovering at hospitals. This needs to stop Michele Vazquez said. The tragedies need to stop. No more families need to go through this. She remembered her yea! r old husband as a jokester with a quick wit and an infectious smile who would help anyone in need. Aside from their young son the couple have four children between them from prior relationships. I thank God every day for giving me the years that I had with him she said. A funeral for Vazquez was set for Friday. Authorities have not determined Blake s motive but said he was having minor financial problems. He owed several hundred dollars on his car and was paying more than a month in child support to an ex girlfriend whom he had a child with. Results from toxicology tests on Blake could take weeks. No one had yet claimed his body which remained at the medical examiner s office Thursday. Meanwhile authorities were able to retrieve the filed off serial numbers on the gun used in the shootings and traced it to a Lake Worth shop said Paul Miller a spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff s Office. Miller said the gun was purchased from the Palm Beach Shooting Center in Decem! ber by a friend of Blake s and sold to him for in January. Authorities did not identify the man but said no criminal charges would be filed. Miller said there was nothing to indicate Blake was planning the shootings when he bought the gun. Otherwise Apple s top of the line iPod is now thisclose to being the iPhone. The only things missing are the tools that require a cellular network. I have put several such applications on the Touch in addition to the new goodies from Apple. They include solitaire old habits Google mobile and direct links to several news sites. These devices have morphed beyond media playback. You can send e mail surf the Web and do practically anything you can on a computer. Also improvements were made to existing Touch programs to take better advantage of Wi Fi. The coolest feature is Maps and how it integrates with Contacts. It is not based on GPS so it works only when you are in a Wi Fi range. Another upgrade was to the Calendar program where you can add appointments directly. Ante up for upgrade I do have some issues with the Touch improvements however. Notably it is the first iPod software upgrade one must pay for. Both coupes and convertibles have a back seat that can fit small people in a pinch, but are really intended to move two people and their belongings in high comfort, style and safety. The 650i is more luxurious than the Z4, and delivers higher performance, more agility and sportier styling than the 5 Series sports sedans. The M6 sacrifices some of the Grand Touring comforts of the 650i in favor of a more aggressive handling package and stratospheric acceleration performance. At the same time, the M6, and especially its sequential manual transmission, takes the marque in a direction purists find distressing, increasingly transferring control of the car from its driver to its super-sophisticated electronics. LSUaposs Pittman Makes Up for Lost Time

I m just thanking God for the opportunity and really taking advantage of the opportunity. This doesn t happen at all to a lot of people two national championships. Back then he was a seldom used reserve. His sophomore season he saw more action and started one game. It had to be surgically ground out Miles recalled costing Pittman his junior season. At the end of the first day however he came off a block and felt a pop. His Achilles tendon had torn. There went another year. and you get another letdown like that Pittman said. It takes a toll on you mentally. There was an additional side benefit. He used his music as therapy but never allowed it to interfere with his rehab. Football still came first. I just play football. Pittman grew up in Garyville La. a town about halfway between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. He was widely recruited coming out of East St. John High School and seriously considered playing at Michigan. His mother Emma a minister who a! lso runs a deli in St. Rose was happy he was close to home following his injuries. The second he was really down in spirit and I prayed him through. I told him to stay focused. Now he s older wiser stronger more mature. He s healthy and it s like he lost nothing. It was a setback that set him up for a great comeback and he has come back stronger. It s an amazing story Miles said. To miss two full seasons due to injury . the likelihood of him playing this season was small and the likelihood of him having a great year less. I can t tell you how happy I am for him how it was important for him to persevere. There isn t any question. If approved that would allow the foot pound senior to come back once more. The Saluda Boyz are at it Again

The length requirement for the race is and under no exceptions. Must be a plastic boat. A set course will be shown to the competitors the day of the race. The course will be water level dependant. It will start at the top of Millrace and end in the vicinity of Fisherman s Rock. The course will be outlined with markers showing all the required eddies routes the racers must go through. With this being a time trial event speed is going to be the name of the game. Top winner takes home the CASH. The Iceman is going to be a mass start race with all the competitors starting in a line up. The race will start at the red pier and will run through Millrace and down to the Zoo Bridge. At the top the racers will reenter the water and run Millrace again. The longer the better. A potluck style party will commence after the race is over. They say it s hard. And I believe them. On Sunday the team and I will do the Umrah the lesser pilgrimage. It symbolises equality all men and women are equal in God s eyes. The act of Umra itself should be fairly easy. We must then walk between the hills of Safa and Murwa seven times. I think I got that right. At least I hope I did and will do when the time comes. And while I m still unsure about the days to come one thing is for certain. Muslims believe the structure was built by Abraham and his son Ishmael. I m still not sure how I will feel once I see it for myself. Something tells me it will be worth all the sleepless nights.

Both sites create a forum to kindle relationships and provide an outlet for expression. Some people say they re addicted to It. I know I am. But for the past year I ve been trying to decide which one is better. Let s face it. We live in a world where communication is difficult. Sure we have technology to help us. Oh yeah you ve done it. Yeah you re smiling about that. We have e mail that instantly sends ideas over the wonderful alternate universe we call the internet. Too bad you have to search through all the spam and Viagra adds to find a single meaningful email. Call me self centered but I like my peace. I do have a favorite though. Both have their good and bad qualities. But in the race to get people together there is a winner. Facebook to me is a very organized forum. From the moment you become a member everything is laid out for you. You have the helpful navigation tabs that direct you to your profile your friends your networks and your inbox.! I m horrible with birthdays. There is a section on there that is titled New Stuff and there are gifts . Like today I see a Santa dress to represent the season. And out beside it it costs USD. I ve had difficulty with finding people that I didn t go to school or work with. So for the impatient people like me I head over to MySpace. I have found that MySpace is a lot more user friendly. Also decently organized it s not that difficult to figure out. You have your control panel where you can change your space . You can let people know just how you feel at that particular moment. Same as Facebook you have an inbox where friends can email you. There is a section where you can view your schools and workplaces. Then you have your friends there waiting for you with their spaces . And recently old Tom everyone s first friend has made some improvements. Pretty nifty I think. MySpace also allows you to customize your page so it is truly your space. For instance I m a ! University of Georgia fanatic. Therefore I have pictures of UGA all over my page. I have vacation picture slideshows set up that give you a better sense of what I like. Because it s my space. You do have to watch out for spam profiles that can trick you into getting your password. All in all both sites reach their goal. Either way both will help you keep in contact with those you love. Microsoft the technology conglomerate recently acquired a British online mapping company Multimap . An acquisition that is clearly bound to boost its Windows Live bouquet of services. Multimap is a company that provides street maps local information and also provides directions. It is basically a me too Google Maps with a few enhanced features. The added advantage that Multimap has is that it can build private label mapping tools for companies eg. it has built them for the Hilton and Ford Motor Co. Multimap is likely to benefit both these brands. Microsoft i think has identified the revenue making potential of making customized maps for large multinationals. This is also one way in which it can differentiate itself from Google. Apart from that it has to look for such opportunities to differentiate itself.
