The launch of full song playback in Yahoo Search brings us closer to realizing Yahoo Music s vision of makin! g the web playable and removing the barriers that prevent people from clicking play and hearing music said Michael Spiegelman head of Yahoo Music. The powerful combination of Rhapsody and Yahoo s FoxyTunes Player will greatly enhance the discovery and consumption of music on the Web by giving online music fans what they want an easy way to hear music. Morrow nearly nohits Yankees in 1st start Miami Herald

Brandon Morrow pitches to the New York Yankees during the sixth inning of their baseball game in Seattle on Friday Sept. . More Photos SEATTLE Brandon Morrow s bid to become only the second pitcher in modern history to throw a no hitter in his first major league start ended when pinch hitter Wilson Betemit doubled with two outs in the eighth inning and the Seattle Mariners beat the New York Yankees Friday night. The year old righty whose previous big league outings were all in relief blanked the Yankees until Betemit batting for Jose Molina lined a clean drive far over right fielder Ichiro Suzuki. The hit scored Hideki Matsui who had walked with one out on a close pitch. Morrow angrily barked an expletive at himself as he walked back to the mound. You can t do anything but you want that back he said. Bobo Holloman of the St. Louis Browns is the lone pitcher since to throw a no hitter in his first big league start doing it against the Philadelphia Athletics on May . Cincinnat! i s Bumpus Jones pitched one against Pittsburgh on Oct. and Ted Breitenstein did it for St. Louis of the American Association against Louisville on Oct. according the Elias Sports Bureau. It s been nearly years since the last complete game no hitter against the Yankees Hoyt Wilhelm did it for Baltimore on Sept. . Six Houston Astros pitchers combined to no hit New York at Yankee Stadium on June a game in which starter Roy Oswalt left with a strained groin in the second inning. Morrow left after Betemit s hit on his th pitch and Justin Thomas retired Johnny Damon on a lineout to end the inning. J.J. Putz completed the two hitter for his th save in chances. The quiet Californian left alone in the dugout between innings with his head resting on a white towel and his hands said he was well aware he was nearing history throughout the game. I mean there s six scoreboards starting me in the face. It s hard not to see he said soaked from a postgame beer shower from teammates who hav! en t celebrated much in this otherwise miserable Mariners season. His gem had the home crowd roaring all night for a refreshing change. I was excited. I think the short innings helped he said. You don t have to labor through things. Morrow tried to strike out Betemit with the same new curveball that had fooled Alex Rodriguez Jason Giambi and others all night. It s a pitch he began throwing in game just last month. This time the curveball stayed high and in the middle of the plate. He threw me a changeup a fastball and then a curveball right down the middle. It stayed right in the middle and I swung the bat good Betemit said. Seattle with the worst record in the AL had lost its previous eight games against the Yankees who dropped games behind Boston in the AL wild card race with just games remaining. With just over three weeks left in the regular season it appears the Yankees will miss the playoffs for the first time since . Morrow the fifth overall pick in the amateur draft struck out eight and walked three. He stomped back to the mound after ! backing up the plate on Betemit s hit and yelled at himself as catcher Kenji Johjima tapped him on the backside with his mitt. Then manager Jim Riggleman came out to get Morrow who had passed his pregame pitch limit of . Morrow exited to one of the loudest most prolonged roars of this long lost Mariners season. He then smiled almost sheepishly while receiving slaps on the back and handshakes from just about every one in Seattle s dugout. When you have stuff like that and you can locate with that stuff you re going to shut down a lot of lineups Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. He was electric tonight. He has been the Mariners most effective pitcher this year with a . ERA in games. He allowed just hits in innings as a reliever while striking out . Morrow made five starts this year at Triple A and was so so until allowing one hit in six innings of his final start for Tacoma on Aug. . He got this start in place of injured Jarrod Washburn. Andy Pettitte fading along with the Ya! nkees lost for the seventh time in eight starts since July . He allowed three runs and seven hits in seven innings while striking out nine and walking one. We need wins. Losses aren t helping right now Pettitte said. We re running out of options here. Added Girardi Every day we have to win. Obviously the hill gets a little steeper now. Seattle went ahead when former Yankee Miguel Cairo doubled leading off the third took third on a single by Suzuki and scored on Yuniesky Betancourt s sacrifice fly. The Mariners added two runs in the third on a double by rookie Matt Tuiasosopo who was making his first major league start Johjima s RBI single and Cairo s run scoring grounder. Notes RHP Alfredo Aceves will make his first major league start on Tuesday when the Yankees are at the Los Angeles Angels instead of Darrell Rasner. Rasner allowed five runs in innings of Thursday s loss at Tampa Bay and is winless in nine starts since July . Aceves allowed one run in five innings relieving Rasner Thursday. . As expected New York recalled former starting OF M! elky Cabrera from Triple A Scranton Wilkes Barre. Girardi said the Yankees are expecting the year old who entered Friday batting . in games and last played for New York on Aug. to swing at better pitches and become a better baserunner. He s better than a . hitter Girardi said. Join the discussion The Miami Herald is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information experiences and observations about what s in the news. Too Much To Bear

The fighting in Mindanao the debate over the bungled Bangsamoro Juridical Entity and yes the highest inflation rate in years of . are hugging the headlines along with the extended presence of visiting American troops in Zamboanga. So it is understandable that the tragic sinking of MV Princess of the Stars nearly three months ago has not been blipping much on our radar. But now this reminder Sulpicio s MV Cotabato Princess being reportedly swept by strong currents to ram Iloilo s pier which is under renovation . causing estimated damages worth PhP M. No human casualties this time but a renewed blot on the shipping firm s severely battered image. There is movement on the ground with long awaited salvage work on the ship wreck due to commence in several weeks at a cost of some P M to the owner Sulpicio Lines. The Cebu based shipping firm has recently reported that it has extended bereavement and other financial aid to more than or is it families of the dead and missing many of ! whose remains are still entombed inside MV Princess of the Stars once the lead vessel in Sulpicio s fleet of inter island passenger and cargo vessels. There is also the matter of the ticking environmental time bomb given Del Monte Philippines highly toxic cargo of the Israeli manufactured endosulfan pesticide which if it leaks together with some liter of bunker fuel still in the overturned ship could wreak untold harm to the rich fishing waters of the Visayas. Both houses of Congress are also not done yet with their inquiries in aid of legislation and there is of course a pending Board of Marine Inquiry recommendation for Sulpicio s franchise its Certificate of Public Convenience CPC to be revoked.
