Halle Berry me and motherhood

This time however things are different. I m really really ready . Because it wasn t written for a woman of colour I had the feeling I wouldn t be considered. It doesn t matter to me at all recalls Berry with a laugh. Not many good parts are written for black women. But I think most actors have to fight for the good parts. They are so few and far between especially for women. Berry is the daughter of a blonde blue eyed English psychiatric nurse from Liverpool and a black American serviceman. She grew up in Cleveland in an atmosphere of prejudice and intolerance and recalls being subjected to racial abuse. Her father left home when she was four and she and her elder sister were raised by her mother. If not I ll spend my life trying to impart it. For a while she continued to care for his daughter India but she is now out of her life. In Berry was sentenced to community service for a hit and run accident after running a red light. A subsequent civil case ag! ainst her was settled out of court. TRAVEL Heaven and hell The best celebrity travel stories from the past year. New owners take over salon in Mt Holly Springs The Sentinel

I was a customer here Wood said explaining how she came to own the salon. I thought the tanning salon in Mount Holly was something the community would continue to use Wood said. I saw future potential for not only this succeeding but maybe opening another location as well he said. We ve learned a lot from the former owner Frank said. She s very helpful. We re not just out here floundering like a fish out of water. The first thing they did was change the name. It means crown of the sun Frank said. We thought that was more tanning salon than Mountain Creek. Everything was done with customers in mind. People want to be catered to and we re the caterers Frank said. They ve purchased new lotions and lowered the prices. We want people to be able to afford the lotions Frank said. Owning their own business wasn t something the couple decided to do just to keep busy. It was a way to balance the demands of work and family. We have four children Wood explained. ! It allows one of us to be home with our children when they re not in school. We re very proud to have bought the salon and we re happy with it Frank said. People have been very accepting of us and very friendly Wood added.

Scientists enter brave new world of synthetic life Houston Chronicle

Now researchers are poised to cross a dramatic barrier the creation of life forms driven by completely artificial DNA. Evolutionary processes are no longer seen as sacred or inviolable. People in labs are figuring them out so they can improve upon them for different purposes. That unprecedented degree of control over creation raises more than philosophical questions however. That could stifle competition they say and place enormous power in a few people s hands. That is when the United States began to adopt standardized thread sizes for nuts and bolts. That allowed the construction of complex devices from interchangeable parts. Details of the process are under wraps.

Gartner Says the Consumerization of IT is a Major Threat to Enterprise Security

IM also continues to rise in popularity and usage may actually exceed e mail usage with younger generations. Enterprises can look at a vector for malicious software or violations of corporate communications policies. Services In addition to communications there is a growing use of blogs social networks and other Web . services both in and out of the workplace. Some of these services create a risk of information leaks while others offer potential new channels for malicious software. Pay particular attention to blogging and what the enterprise is comfortable allowing employees to discuss. Company intellectual property and company operational information should be restricted from blogs. Deploy Web security gateway and configure it to block malicious inbound traffic. Make sure the product can detect and block JavaScript exploits. Configure the Web security gateway to block any services such as social networking unapproved for use in the workplace. Configure yo! ur CMF DLP solution to monitor and enforce policies on HTTP traffic. Future employees may expect to use these devices with or in lieu of corporate managed systems. Enterprises can take precautions today to limit the risks of these devices without resorting to an unenforceable outright ban. Hajj Diary Nervous anticipation BBC News

uk navigation Skip to search Access keys help bbc. I m feeling quite anxious at the moment. It ll be my first time performing Hajj. Luckily I ll be with colleagues who have performed Hajj. They say it s hard. And I believe them. On Sunday the team and I will do the Umrah the lesser pilgrimage. It symbolises equality all men and women are equal in God s eyes. The act of Umra itself should be fairly easy. We must then walk between the hills of Safa and Murwa seven times. I think I got that right. At least I hope I did and will do when the time comes. And while I m still unsure about the days to come one thing is for certain. Muslims believe the structure was built by Abraham and his son Ishmael. I m still not sure how I will feel once I see it for myself. Something tells me it will be worth all the sleepless nights.

Social Networking Facebook or MySpace

Both sites create a forum to kindle relationships and provide an outlet for expression. Some people say they re addicted to It. I know I am. But for the past year I ve been trying to decide which one is better. Let s face it. We live in a world where communication is difficult. Sure we have technology to help us. Oh yeah you ve done it. Yeah you re smiling about that. We have e mail that instantly sends ideas over the wonderful alternate universe we call the internet. Too bad you have to search through all the spam and Viagra adds to find a single meaningful email. Call me self centered but I like my peace. I do have a favorite though. Both have their good and bad qualities. But in the race to get people together there is a winner. Facebook to me is a very organized forum. From the moment you become a member everything is laid out for you. You have the helpful navigation tabs that direct you to your profile your friends your networks and your inbox.! I m horrible with birthdays. There is a section on there that is titled New Stuff and there are gifts . Like today I see a Santa dress to represent the season. And out beside it it costs USD. I ve had difficulty with finding people that I didn t go to school or work with. So for the impatient people like me I head over to MySpace. I have found that MySpace is a lot more user friendly. Also decently organized it s not that difficult to figure out. You have your control panel where you can change your space . You can let people know just how you feel at that particular moment. Same as Facebook you have an inbox where friends can email you. There is a section where you can view your schools and workplaces. Then you have your friends there waiting for you with their spaces . And recently old Tom everyone s first friend has made some improvements. Pretty nifty I think. MySpace also allows you to customize your page so it is truly your space. For instance I m a ! University of Georgia fanatic. Therefore I have pictures of UGA all over my page. I have vacation picture slideshows set up that give you a better sense of what I like. Because it s my space. You do have to watch out for spam profiles that can trick you into getting your password. All in all both sites reach their goal. Either way both will help you keep in contact with those you love. You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS . You can leave a response or trackback from your own site.

Microsoft plays catch up buys Web Mapping Company Too little too late

Microsoft the technology conglomerate recently acquired a British online mapping company Multimap . An acquisition that is clearly bound to boost its Windows Live bouquet of services. Multimap is a company that provides street maps local information and also provides directions. It is basically a me too Google Maps with a few enhanced features. The added advantage that Multimap has is that it can build private label mapping tools for companies eg. it has built them for the Hilton and Ford Motor Co. Multimap is likely to benefit both these brands. Microsoft i think has identified the revenue making potential of making customized maps for large multinationals. This is also one way in which it can differentiate itself from Google. Apart from that it has to look for such opportunities to differentiate itself. Microsoft is currently No. in Search related queries after Google and Yahoo. It claims that its search engine is as effective as Google s. Google quit! e clearly has proliferated beyond search into other Value Added Services. Ravi Venkatraman on Guruji.
